Regulatory Compliance Monitoring
Tracking regulatory announcements and filings relevant to a business via search.
The problem
Regulatory requirements change through agency rule-makings, guidance updates, and enforcement actions that are published across many separate agency sites with no single feed, and a compliance team monitoring only the well-known headline regulations can still be caught off guard by a narrower rule change relevant to their specific business.
How the workflow is built
Queries scoped to specific regulatory agency domains combine the business's relevant regulatory areas with rule-making and enforcement terms, run on a recurring cadence, with hits routed through a compliance review process that assesses actual applicability rather than treating every regulatory mention as directly relevant.
Example queries
site:[agency].gov proposed rule "[topic]" 2026"[industry]" new regulation compliance deadline"[agency]" enforcement action "[industry]" 2025
Pitfalls to watch for
- Regulatory text itself is often published with a significant lag relative to when a rule is announced, and a compliance workflow relying only on search-surfaced news coverage of a rule (rather than the rule's actual text once published) risks acting on an incomplete or inaccurate summary.
- Jurisdictional scope matters enormously and is easy to get wrong — a rule change in one state or country can look, in a search snippet, deceptively similar to a change with much broader applicability, so jurisdiction needs to be explicitly verified for every hit.
- Regulatory guidance is sometimes informal (agency statements, speeches, FAQ updates) rather than a formal rule, and treating informal guidance with the same weight as a binding regulation in a compliance report misrepresents the actual legal obligation.
