Affiliate Marketing Research
Using search APIs to find affiliate programs, keywords, and competitor content angles.
The problem
Finding profitable affiliate opportunities means identifying which products have active affiliate programs, what content angles are already ranking well for relevant keywords, and where the competitive gaps are — research that's traditionally done by manually checking dozens of merchant sites and competitor content one at a time.
How the workflow is built
Queries target merchant affiliate-program pages directly, plus competitor content already ranking for target keywords, to assess both program terms (commission structure, cookie duration where disclosed) and the content gap between what's already ranking and what an affiliate site could realistically produce.
Example queries
"[product category]" affiliate program signup"best [product category]" review site:[competitor blog]"[keyword]" search volume competition content gap
Pitfalls to watch for
- Affiliate program terms (commission rates, cookie windows) surfaced through a general search of a program's public page are frequently outdated relative to the actual current terms, which are often only accurate once inside the affiliate network's own dashboard.
- Competitor content analysis via search snippets alone significantly understates what's actually working for a competitor — ranking position and content structure matter as much as the visible snippet text, and a full page review is usually necessary before drawing conclusions.
- This space has a meaningful amount of thin, templated content built purely to capture affiliate clicks, and treating a top-ranking competitor page as a genuine quality benchmark rather than recognizing it might itself be low-effort content can lead to copying a weak strategy.
